In the Dependents or Prerequisites columns of a task, type a dependency or prerequisite code. Whether you drag from the start or the end of the prerequisite task, and whether you drop onto the start or end of the dependent task, determines the type of dependency. It becomes a dependency line, which you can then drop onto the start or end of another task, group, or milestone. Put the mouse pointer over a task bar in the Gantt chart, then drag one of the arrows that appears at the beginning or end of the bar. Select two or more tasks in the task outline or the Gantt chart, then click the triangle in the corner of the Connection button-or click and hold the Connection button-to summon a menu of dependency types choose the type you want.
Select two or more tasks in the outline view or the Gantt chart, then click the Connection toolbar button to create a Finish to Start dependency between each subsequent task. If a dependency becomes impossible or you manually cause a task stop obeying its dependencies, a violation occurs, which can be resolved with the Violations window. With further changes to the schedule and leveling, the tasks continue trying to follow the dependencies. When you create a dependency, the dependent task automatically reschedules itself to respect the dependency. A dependency line is drawn from the beginning or end of one task (or group, or milestone) to the beginning or end of another. Using the Gantt chart in Task View, you can represent the relationships between tasks with dependency lines. Charting dependencies in your project is a key part of understanding the critical path of tasks that leads through to its successful completion, on time and within budget.
OMNIPLAN EXPAND ALL TASKS HOW TO
So, is there a way to make Omniplan assign a group of people to a task while not splitting the effort time among them? Or is there some other way how to achieve my goal without splitting the task into 4 simultaneous tasks, each for a developer?ĮDIT: it works when I keep duration fixed and add resources one by one, but that is quite clumsy since eventually I need this done many times.When a task must be completed before another can begin, a dependency exists between them. Thus, splitting the work among the members is the one thing I don`t want Omniplan to do.Īn obvious solution would be to multiply the effort time but that also increases the duration, which is unthinkable since I know the task can be done in aproximately 4 days :). As a result, the cost is trimmed to: 175*8*4 = 5600. However, Omniplan splits the 4 days effort among the developers, making each of them work only for a day. The cost of the task should be (with 4 days task effort and 4 developers): 175*4*8*4 = 22400. Let`s say that each member`s cost/hour is 175 (currency doesn`t matter now) and that a day contains 8 working hours I know they should be finished with the work within 4 days - setting the task`s duration and effort is easy too. I want to assign the team of developers to work on the implementation - that`s easy. Let`s have a group of resources called "Developers" Let`s have a task called "Software implementation"
I will try to use a short example to depict my problem: This is probably a newbie question, since I`ve only used Omniplan for a day or 2 so far :).
